Apple has officially released iOS 16.5 and iPad 16.5 to all customers after months of beta testing. Apple decided to make just minor modifications to iOS 16 as WWDC 2023 and the upcoming release of iOS 17 get near. It’s possible that iOS 16.5 will be the last update before the much-awaited release of iOS 17.
New Features Announced for Apple iOS 16.5
Apple News’s Sports Tab
The inclusion of a sports tab in the Apple News app is one of the new features in iOS 16.5. Users may utilize this tool to follow their preferred sports teams, athletes, and leagues. Additionally, by referring users to the appropriate game sites, My Sports score and schedule cards in Apple News enable users to get extensive information about certain games.
The Sports tab in Apple News offers quick access to articles, scores, rankings, and more for the teams and leagues readers are interested in, according to Apple’s release notice for this new feature.
Pride Festival Background
A Pride Celebration wallpaper has also been released by Apple as an homage to the LGBTQ+ community and its colorful culture. This wallpaper has appealing animations and can be used on both the lock and home screens.
Fixing bugs
The release of iOS 16.5 fixes a number of problems from earlier iterations. These bug updates fix issues including Spotlight that is unresponsive, Podcasts that won’t load in CarPlay, and Screen Time settings that reset or don’t sync between devices.
Notably, a previous beta of iOS 16.5 added a new Siri command that could start and stop screen recordings. However, this function was later taken out of further beta releases and did not make it into the final version of iOS 16.5 either.
Future Plans and Expectations for Apple
Additionally, Apple recently previewed new Assistant capabilities that will likely be included in iOS 17, which is scheduled to be released later this year. Among these capabilities, the Personal Voice function has drawn a lot of interest from Apple fans. With this cutting-edge feature, individuals may clone their own voices in just 15 minutes.
