Blue Origin startup uses moon dust to make solar cells
Solar cells and transmission wires can be produced using a method created by Jeff Bezos’ private aerospace company, Blue Origin, by simulating lunar regolith. The resulting solar cells are claimed to be durable for more than ten years and withstand the “rough lunar terrain.
“It’s interesting to note that the procedure doesn’t produce any carbon emissions, water, or hazardous chemicals.
For long-term lunar exploration, the technology created by Blue Origin may be essential. To maintain a permanent presence on the Moon, electric power is necessary, and the company’s technology may be ground-breaking in this area.
It’s significant as their approach eliminates the need to ship pricey resources from Earth by making solar cells directly from the Moon’s substance.
A process used by the company is known as Blue Alchemist, and it uses imitators that are chemically and minerally similar to regolith, which is found on the Moon’s surface.
Molten regolith electrolysis, which involves the flow of an electric current, is a method used in a reactor to remove iron, silicon, and aluminium from the oxygen moieties to which they are attached.
