Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh dies at 92
Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a distinguished economist and a doyen of Indian politics, died on Thursday at 92.
He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after his health deteriorated.
At around 8 pm, Dr. Singh was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room, where medical staff had to try for countless hours. Still, the country lost one of its most revered leaders, empty of their effort.
Dr. Singh considered the architect of India’s liberal economy, served as Finance Minister in the PV Narasimha Rao administration from 1991 to 1996. His innovative reforms made India’s economy more comfortable in international industry and helped it become one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.
He steered India to significant changes as prime minister from 2004 to 2014, including the India-Pakistan nuclear deal and unprecedented economic expansion. He was widely respected across the aisle for his integrity, calm demeanor, and grace. Dr Singh is survived by his three daughters and wife Gursharan Kaur. Funeral arrangements are still being finalized. India mourns the passing of a man who inspired future generations with his legacy of economic growth and governance innovation.
